Louby Lou's Interactive Storytelling

To help celebrate children's literature this week I'm delighted to share this guest post from Sarah at Louby Lou Interactive Storytelling. Read on to find out all about her fantastic interactive storytelling sessions!

When I was a little girl, I would jump from sofa to sofa in a desperate attempt to not fall into the hot, sticky lava below. I would sprint down to the bottom of the garden to catch pixies in my fishing net & then pop them in a glass jar to keep them safe. I would read my favourite book, Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’ & then stare for hours at household items to try & make them move across the room. I would love to get lost in my magical world of make believe & now that I am twenty five years old, I still love to do all those things! My name is Sarah & back in February 2016, I set up Louby Lou’s Interactive Storytelling. My company is about celebrating the possibilities of children’s imaginations & to do just what I wanted to do when I was a little girl – make my favourite stories come to life.

Story time is such an important part of a child’s development. It allows their creative & communicative skills to grow .The more exciting we can make it, the better! To most people, storytelling would be someone sat down, reading from a book – but our sessions are very different! At Louby Lou’s we take classic stories such as We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, The BFG, The Hungry Caterpillar, Little Red Riding Hood (to name just a small few) & simply act out the story! Whether that be through sound, music, action, props, costumes, puppets, singing or parachute work – we have lots of different drama based techniques that help to create a wonderful world for the children where they are moving & active. But it’s not just the children! We are very big on parent/child interaction & encourage all our parents to join in with the story. Whether that be making the story sounds, holding hands to make a giant beanstalk for the children to climb or simply joining in, this interaction really helps to make the story more magical for the children (and the parents love it too!) Lots of Mums & Dads have expressed how our sessions have helped to make bedtime stories in their home more exciting for their children, which really helps to celebrate & take advantage of the wonderful world of Children’s Literature that we have on our bookshelves.

In a day and age where technology is advancing, I feel it is so important to take it back to the basics & not to forget that children have the most amazing imaginations – that is why I set up the company. I want children to explore what they are capable of & think about things in a creative way, whilst opening up some of the best stories by the best authors. The company is growing rapidly, with sessions now happening every week over the Blaenau Gwent & Monmouthshire areas. If you fancy coming along to see what it is all about, take a look at some of our upcoming sessions in & around the Abergavenny area. It is always lovely to see so many new faces & we really take pride in delivering you & your child a high quality experience.

Fingers crossed we will see you very soon!
